Excellent read. I love that last part... If what we do leads us to worship Christ, we’re on the right track. But if it starts replacing him? That’s when we have a problem. This makes it plain and straight to the point.
Never really thought about this issue before, but it certainly is an issue. Didn't know there was a second council of Nicaea either - so learned something today. Important subject as some people are praying to icons and not making the connection that icons are supposed to connect them to Christ, not replace Him. It's important that we be purposeful about our worship and I think that because of my relationship with Jesus, no matter what implements I use in my worship, my intention is always towards Him and not the object I may be using to connect me. What may more insidious is how e place our job or our 'things' ahead of God and make them into idols, maybe unintentionally. Again, we need to be intentional about our worship and be constantly on the alert for how the enemy may deceive us into placing things in front of our worship and dedication to our maker.
Thanks so much--so glad to hear it was helpful. You're right. It definitely makes you think. It is an ongoing debate today. Thanks so much for weighing in!
